Course description
Applying different experimental designs, techniques of measurement in skill acquisition, learning and memory research. Symbolic learning. Methods of measurement of effects of learning. Meaningfulness of learning material and retention. and Serial position effect. Positive and negative transfer of learning. Short-term memory. The nature of long-term memory. Concept acquisition. Mnemonics. The nature of sensory information and learning. Effects of feedback on learning. Motivation and learning. Retention and forgetting. Associations. Mental set. Cognitive schemes. Classical and instrumental learning. Behavioral modeling.
Course objectives
The aim of this course is to provide knowledge about methodology of data collection, data analyses and data presentation in psychology by demonstrating some of the most prominent phenomena in the area of learning, retention and forgetting. It is also to expect that students will gain more in-depth knowledge in learning theory and practice, as well as master their skills in writing research reports.
