Notice to students on performing student practice
During the study of Psychology, students are required to perform student practice for a period of one month (4 weeks). The practice can be done during the Graduate study programme. Students decide alone of the area in which they want their practice. It can be performed either in one institution (4 weeks) or in two institutions (2 weeks each). Students practice can be done ONLY at a psychologist. Completed student practice is one of the prerequisites for taking the graduation exam.
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has signed agreements with a number of institutions with employed psychologists where psychology students can do their practice. We recommend that students select these institutions, but in principle it is possible to carry out the practice in any institution that employs a psychologist (in Zagreb or outside Zagreb) with at least 3 years of experience and a membership at the Croatian Chamber of Psychology. In that case, however, it has to be done with a prior arrangement with the Department of Psychology (in which case you should contact the Head of Department and/or Head of the Committee for Practice prof. Lidija Arambašić, Ph.D.).
1. GOING TO PRACTICE
Students must pick up Referral for practice and Certificate of the completed practice at the secretariat of the Department. They should fill out the referral, take it to the the Head of Department for signing, return to the secretariat for the referral to be sealed and verified, and then can leave for practice. We recommend students to contact their mentors and make arrangements for the practice.
If a student wants to do the practice in the Military Health Centre or the Prison Administration - Centre of Diagnostics, the Department has to seek approval of the relevant ministry first. We urge the students to kindly take that into consideration when arranging for that practice.
Important note: for practical training in all institutions that deal with children (hospitals, kindergartens, homes), students must have a health card, and pay for the check-up themselves.
2. WRITING THE REPORT ON COMPLETED PRACTICE
After having completed the practice, students are required to write a Report about the practice, and submit it to the secretariat of the Department within 30 days of the end of practice.
Certificate of the practice is to be attached to the submitted report, signed by the mentor and stamped at the institution. The section "Report accepted" on the Certificate is filled by the members of the section for that area.
Students who want the practice written in their student's transcripts by September 30 have to submit the report within 30 days of the end of practice, but no later than September 15 of the current academic year.
3. SUCCESS ASSESSMENT OF THE MENTOR OF STUDENT'S PRACTICE
When picking up the referrals for practice and certificates on completed practice, students will receive a copy of the Check-list to assess the effectiveness of mentors of students' practice and will submit the filled in check-list along with the practice report.
4. NOTICE ON THE CANCELLATION OF COURSE "METHODOLOGICAL PRACTICE"
The Council of the Department of Psychology, at its session of 6 June 2013, adopted a decision to cancel the course "Methodical practice" (hourly rate: 120V; 10 ECTS). This was a mandatory course as a part of the acquisition of pedagogical-psychological-didactic-methodical education for psychologists, and necessary for the work of psychologists in schools according to the Law on Education in Primary and Secondary Schools (OG, Nos. 87/08). According to the former program, students who opted for the acquisition of these competences had to meet all obligations of the course "Practice" (75V; 6 ECTS), a mandatory course of Graduate study programme in psychology, along with the mentioned course.
Students who acquire pedagogical-psychological-didactic-methodical competences shall perform the course "Practice" in primary and secondary schools so as to obtain the competencies that were acquired by the course "Methodical practice". Thus, students who wish to acquire these competencies are not doing two practices, methodical and student, as was the case so far, but only a practice carried out in primary or secondary school.
